catching up!

Hi there.
A lot has happened in the last month. I got back with my boyfriend and broke up again. We finally, or better said, I finally got over it and ended our troubling relationship. I miss him every day, but it’s for the best. Or at least I keep telling myself just that. Because deep in my hart, strangely enough, we belong together. Anyway, don‘t want to get to carried away with the whole I-love-him-but-does-he-still-loves-me-thing! I started school again, at the university of Amsterdam, major in Science. And to keep myself motivated I reed books like, how to be a straight A student and looking for things to dream about. For example, Yale. I love to go to Yale. After seeing Gilmore Girls a million times, I went looking for more information about the buildings and the college program. And after reading the Yale website about a hundred times, I decided that I should go. First I have to finish this year, but after that… I’m going to Yale! Little challenge for you: If you live in America and go to Yale, or you know someone, perhaps you can tell me something I don’t know yet. The inside information, etc. (Send this to girlwiththedress@hotmail.com) That would be so great! If you’re not spending time at Yale or you don’t know anyone, I would love to hear about your own college experiences. The education in the USA is very different than here in Holland, so I’m very curious..

As always I’ve been shopping my ass off. Loving it! But because I did not want to spend a lot of money, I went to the Zara and Mango to find some great look a likes. It was love at first sight. I’m very in to lace at the moment, lace tops, dresses, belts and also into see threw materials. Totally loving the thin dresses with a big, knitted and warm sweater on top and comfy boots (with high heals of course!) Also bought a great black trench coat for only €120, instead of €1200 if you want one from Burberry. Also I cute little black dress, you can never have enough of them and the best pink shoes from Charlotte Olympia. Never heard of her before, I feel ashamed, but now loving the shoes. (They where a bit out of my price range, but couldn’t leave them in the store.) Did not really liked the shoes of the Zara, looked a bit fake. But perhaps that’s just me, who thinks that.

Anyway, got to go there is a huge latte waiting with my books in the library. Waiting for me to start studying, on a Sunday morning! Not that I’m really exited about studying on a Sunday morning, but that’s what a real straight A student would do..
See ya! And don’t forget, send me your college experiences to girlwiththedress@hotmail.com!

Vacation -- the End!

Hello people,
It has been a while since my last blog. Haven’t had time to write, because I’m in Italy at the moment. Having a lovely and needed vacation. I’m staying here at Lago di Como (in English: lake Como), the place where George Clooney has a house as well. To be exacted; I stayed in the same town as where George Clooney lives, called Laglio, but haven’t seen him jet. Now I'm in Bellagio (like the casino in Las Vegas :P), this place is a bit more touristy than Laglio, but very nice as well. Laglio is the perfect vacation spot; a lot of sun, delicious food, the lake and other relaxing factors for a comfortable stay. Too bad I’m going back to Holland tomorrow, luckily I already have a busy day scheduled for this Sunday. Now I’m just going to enjoy my view for the last time this.. And I hope you enjoy it as well!

Have a nice day.

Hi there!
It has been a sucking-week, as I call it. You know the feeling when everything goes wrong and nothing seems to go your way. You realise that your ex boyfriend has been sleeping with 4 different girls (including yourself) in 2 months time, witch means this is a very good reason to dump him jet again but you still have problems doing just that. You cling to this feeling of emptiness, not knowing what to do about it and the worst thing is… He’s doesn’t even realise it! He’s being the jerk as he always is, partying even more; witch means: meeting a lot of new girls. Asshole!
Next to that I have a decision to make, about another stress factor in your life: your education! After not being accepted for medical school, I need to find something else. But what? That’s the big question!
Oh did I tell you I also quit my job? Just to make everything a little bit more easy! Unbelievable how all these things just come up in the same week, or better said the same day.
I decided it was time to put on loud rock music and dance in front of the mirror, but the empty and depressing feeling didn’t go away. Even after eating only carbs and chocolates all day, witch normally makes me feel so much better, the emptiness was still there. Maybe fresh air will do it, I thought. I went running for about an hour and on my way back home I bought the new Vogue, Marie Claire, InStyle and Glamour magazine. No, still feeling like shit.

Because I’m experiencing a sucking-week (I don‘t think it‘s actually a word!). I decided to make a list to help you have a good day, when your feeling down… And because I need it very badly at the moment, I’m going to do all those things as well! So: 5 ways to make your day.

1. Bake a cake! Dr. Izzy’s (Grey’s anatomy) remedy against stress and empty feeling.
2. Power napping. Scientifically proofed that napping for about 20 minutes during the day helps with concentrating, your memory and feeling better.
3. Being green. It’s good to think about the environment or somebody else when your feeling down! Green Thing encourages people to be more green, how does that work? They email you an assignment every month to do something green. When you do this assignment, Green Thing will show you what you did for the environment at www.dothegreenthing.com.
4. Be like Karl! When you have a bad day, open up a bottle of Champagne. Just because you feel like it! When you’re not allowed to drink yet, do it like Karl Lagerfeld and drink water from a crystal champagne glass.
5. Keep smiling. Perhaps cry first, but after a little while just keep smiling. Tests have shown that even a fake smile lifts up your spirit.

Just writing this blog today made me feel a bit better! I’m going to make some pasta, lots of carbs (jummy!) and have a lovely glass of champagne. Just because I feel like it!

See ya!!!
xox,

Julie.

The boring week..

Hi there,
Do you know the feeling? When time is going so fast you just don’t know where it went? It already has been more than a week since my last blog, but honestly not much happened. It has been a boring week, watching the same episodes of Gossip Girl and Grey’s Anatomy and watching movies like Legally Blond and The devil wears Prada about a thousand times. I spend some time at my parents, they are back from Italy, just doing nothing. I watched Oprah, another re-run about Kathy Freston, a writer (sorry, a New York Times bestselling author). I guess the whole doing nothing was so boring at a time I bought her book and started reading. Her book is called Quantum Wellness, it’s a book about spirituality, health and happiness. Quite interesting, I have to say!

Anyway, like I said before there weren’t much party’s this week. Although, on Friday I went to a very cool fashion show of famous Dutch designers. They all had to design something in the color red and the money of this fundraiser went to the AIDS Fund... Perhaps you’ve heard that last weekend was the gay parade in Amsterdam. It’s like a weekend for all gay people in Holland and everywhere else in the world to come to Amsterdam, (note: I‘m not gay!) but there are always very interesting things to do and watch. Like this fashion show, I took some photo’s with my phone. There not really sharp, but I had forgotten my digital camera and I wanted to take some pictures. On the catwalk were real (super)models and real Dutch Celebrity's showing the clothing.. See below.

After the fashion show, Amy and I, had a late dinner at an Italian place. The food was good, we both had pasta with all sorts of seafood and veggies. Very delicious! And it was VERY cheap, we paid €25 all together, drinks included. I guess I have to go back, you know, check it out again before I post the adress of this interesting pizza place on my blog. I went home around 1 AM. The next day I had to work, so I did not want to make it late.

The next day I went to work and afterwards I had dinner with Chloé, at a very strange restaurant. I don’t think I’m going to eat there ever again. For example: On the menu there was a salad, but in the salad they put fish, beef, 2 sorts of cheeses, guacamole and crème fresh. I don’t think that’s a very tasty combination, but than again I never tried it so perhaps it delicious! It wasn’t just the salad, but everything had these weird combinations. So I took the simple mushroom soup and my friend a cheese dish with veggies. One positive point: the desserts à delicious!!! After dinner we went to the Amstelplein ( a small square in Amsterdam, close to the Utrechtsestraat). There was a deejay, because of the gay parade. We didn’t stay long, because it started to rain very hard.. We decided to have a drink in a small café called Onder de Ooievaar. It was fun. It was a long night!

Tomorrow’s is my first day of since a long time. A day when you don’t have to work, without appointments or dinner dates and drinks in the evening. I’m just going to relax.. As long as I can, because just on these days the strangest things happen to me. I’ll let you know…

Dear Dairy!

Thursday
After finishing up at the university, you know, returning the books and saying goodbye too your teachers, I went to see Chloé. We took a homemade mani and pedi, and we went shopping for some new cloths for our manhunt. I bought a fantastic dress from one of my favourite brands sass & Bride. I’m in love with this brand since they just started out in Londen (Portobello road market), where I bought my first t-shirt. This rock/sexy outfit is perfect for tonight. (see below)

After dinner at Chloé’s place, we went to a bar called Alto. Alto is a cosy Jazz café with a live band, it is small and mostly very crowded. (Adres: Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 115) Normaly you would walk by it and never go inside or you just walk pass it because it’s so small. Anyway, we had a good time in Alto until I saw my ex-boyfriend Laurens (see previous blog: Sunday, it’s a first! Date: July 6, 2008 for more info about Laurens). I don’t mind seeing him, we still talk to each other and we still have a good relationship. Perhaps to good, because as always I just couldn’t resist him. The crazy thing is, he’s not that good-looking but there is something about him. I guess it is called charisma or something; he never has a problems finding girls to love and like him. Anyway, I promised Chloé that I would be a good girl and just talk to him and nothing else! So we just talked and I tried not to flirt to much. There was no manhunt for the rest of the night, a lot of attention but none looked like Laurens. I miss him!

Friday
Nothing happened with Laurens on Thursday, secretly I wished it did. Today I did a bit of shopping with Kate. She needed some things for her apartment; her huge apartment. So we went to the Ikea, a great shop. I guess you know it, because you can find the Ikea almost everywhere. When you’re done with the shopping you can buy a lovely hotdog for only €1,50 , with drinks included. I mean that’s cheap!! And the hotdogs are very tasteful, that’s important too. After our delicious hotdog we went back to Kate’s house and we made some great Mexican food. with our friend Amy and we had our dinner on Kate’s sunny roof terrace, with a little wine of course!

Saturday
Had to wake up around 7.30 AM, this means after just 3 hours of sleep, to go to work. Laurens had been sending me messages in the middle of the night and called me around 5 AM. He was just coming back from a party and something happened that reminded him of me. Honestly, I think that’s just an excuse to call me. I know that! Anyway, I had to go to work feeling sick from the wine, but most of all from the Mexican food with not much of sleep. Trust me, working feeling like that sucks! But I went, like a good girl, and stayed until they closed. After work I had another dinner party. So I went there, wearing my new dress (again). The dinner party was at Kate’s place (again), because of the weather (it’s very warm in Holland) we had a light dinner. With different salads, sandwiches, cheeses, wine and conversations. Around 2 AM I went back to my place. Witch is about 4 minutes by bike, a very normal way of transportation in Amsterdam. You see bikes everywhere, it is crazy! I love my bike, it’s an old one and not really pretty but it’s the best bike ever!

Sunday.
Had to work again, but had some more sleep than last night. I needed that sleep very badly. Luckily Laurens went to his parent, so he did not send messages non stop threw out the night and he had an early night as well. I just had to work for 5 hours, this Sunday, so I had some time to sit outside in the lovely sun. The weather has been great the last week, around 27 degrees, lots of sun (and sometimes a bit of rain, witch sucks.). After work I joined my friend Charlotte (See also my blog: Sunday, it’s a first. Date: July 6, 2008 for more about Charlotte) in the Vondelpark. A very famous park in Amsterdam and a great place to enjoy the sun. We had dinner in ‘t Blauwe Theehuis in the Vondelpark. A simple restaurant, with a very simple menu but the food is really good and I love the location (Address: Vondelpark 5). In the summer you have steak of the grill with a salad and baby potatoes or salmon with a lovely salad for only €13,00. On Sunday from 2 PM they also serve great finger food.
After dinner we went back to Charlottes’ place and we watched a DVD, Vantage Point, very good movie. I recommend watching Vantage Point!
Around 1 AM, I got tired and I went home. At least that was my plan! On my way home I saw Laurens. I stopped with my bike to say hallo. We talked and all of a sudden he kissed me. I kissed him back, of course! What happened the rest of the night? I’m going to keep that for myself. All I’m going to say it was a great night, no regrets and I went back home around 3 PM the next day.

Today.
I had a great night and a great day, after spending the night with Laurens. Before I went back home, I first made a stop at patisserie Kuyt, for a delicious chocolate tart. Somehow everything seemed to sparkle more, there was more light and everything seemed more delicious. That can only mean one thing: Guess I’m in love…

Julie

Extra note: I got an email a couple of day’s ago, how I could buy so much expensive clothing. To answer that question: I have a job in fashion, witch gives me a discount on clothing from time to time. When I went to university I just worked 1 or perhaps 2 day’s a week, but now when I’m free from the university I can work a bit more and get more cash for clothing. Next to that, I have very nice parents who love their only daughter very much. Hope that answers your question!

Litlle bit of everything

Hallo everyone,
After 6 days at my grandparents is time to return to the “big” city. Had a good time, did some basic shopping with my grandma and some study-talking with my grandfather. I just heard that I did not get into medical school this year, so I need to come up with something else. The problem is, I have no idea what else I want to study or do.

Anyway, I’m happy to be back in Amsterdam! Last night I had to baby-sit, a girl, (2 years old) called Gabriella. While babysitting (baby is asleep, I read a book/ watch TV), I was reading The nanny diaries. A funny and easy book to read. I was wondering this book is “the real thing”, Gabriella’s mum said it isn‘t, but I think it is true. At least a bit. At page 38 there is a schedule with after school activities of the boy. Monday: Music lessons and something called mammy and me. Thusday: swimming. Wednesday: PO and Karate. Thursday: Piano lessons and French class.. And the list is not over yet. Poor boy, wondering if Gabriella will have a list like this one day. At least I know now, that I’m not going to be an Au Pair in France ( or anywhere else for that matter)

After reading some more pages, I went online and found a very funny video of George Clooney new Martini commercial. Or at least I think its the new one, I haven’t seen it before. George is going for a Clark Cable look with that moustache. Very Gone with the Wind of him. Funny video as you can see below.

Don’t have any pictures of my latest shopping sprees, but if you want to read about fashion have a look at: http://www.girlwiththepinkdress.blogspot.com/.

Sorry for the short blog, but I have a party to go to.. Chloé and me have some man hunting to do. Stay tuned for more...

xx Julie!

Another week, another blog.

Friday, party time!
My parents are like most parents, they just love to go on vacation.. They took this morning’s flight to Italy and they will be back in about 3 weeks. Like every good girl would do, I decided to give a big party. Starting me and the girls hanging at the pool, putting on our lovely dresses (See picture below! Like Sienna Miller, I’m also a big fan of Matthew Williamson) and make up on. Later when all the guests arrived, we had a big barbeque and a party inside, with cocktails of course!.

Saturday, pff.
I'm all still a bit sleepy and perhaps a still a bit drunk from last night. It was a great party and everybody loved my dress! A very important thing of course, just kidding. We had a good time, what am I saying a great time!. One thing I don’t like so much, about party’s, is the mess that’s left after it and therefor I spend cleaning for the rest of the day. As a little pick me up, one of my friends invited me for dinner.. We had pizza in the best pizzeria of Amsterdam, called Renato’s. On the karel du Jardinstraat 32, very close to my apartment and I must say they have the best pizza’s ever made! Google it if you want, and you’ll find nothing than good reviews. After dinner we went to a party in Paradiso, a club located in the centre of Amsterdam (Leidseplein). On Wednesday and Thursday there are a lot of students, on Saturday a mixed crowed. A lot of concerts and events are hosted in Paradiso as well (like this Satuday).

Oh, btw, it’s a memorable day because Angelina Jolie gave birth to THE twins! A boy and... a girl.

Sunday, a good time to relax.
Even more sleepy today, and hungry again. After a quick breakfast I went to the place were you can buy the delicious bread and pastries/cupcakes etc. A Dutch bakery called
Bakken met Passie, location: Albert Cuypstraat 51, Amsterdam. It’s a 5 minute walk from my place, so I go there quite early (for me, around 8) and they just opened the store (Not this Sunday). You walk in and you can see all the flesh baked breads right in front of you, and you just want to eat them all. Then you realise that every bread has a lot of carbs in it, so you just choose one.
Later today, when it stopped raining and the sun came out, Kirsten (the model) and me went to have some drinks on a terrace. A common thing to do in Amsterdam, we went to the Marie Heinekenplein. It’s a square, like Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein, but with less tourists and closer to my place. We just sit there for an hour or two, getting a bit of a tan), before I went back home to write this blog. On my way back home I went shopping, but did not find anything. Maybe next time I‘ll have more luck. All I have to do tonight is relax and pack my bags because I’m going to stay a couple at nights with my grandparents in the country. They don’t live in the city, so it’s a good place to just relax and of course get a bit spoiled by my grand’s!

X! Julie

Sunday, it's a first!

Good morning! Well, yesterday was a great night.. One of my friends Kate, slightly older than me, moved in with her boyfriend and they gave a big housewarming party, in there huge apartment! Seriously! (Yes, I have been watching Grey’s Anatomy). We’ve got lost trying to find the bathroom, and they have 3 of them. How hard can it be to just find one?! Anyway great party, great bar and a, of course, a great barperson. Very HOT!

Let me tell you some things about my friends. Well you have Kate, 25 years, living with the boyfriend. We watch football (Or I believe its called soccer in the USA/UK?) together, eat brownies and have strange nicknames for each other. I’m not going to write them down, because of the following: One night after a dinner party we went for some (more) drinks in the Utrechtsestraat (cozy street, with bars and restaurants). When we were walking, we saw a copy shop (ß read carefully, good!) and there was a bulletin board with cards with names on it. Names that parents give to there baby’s, and of course we went looking for the most stupid and weirdest names. That we found immediately, and we use those names for each other.. But I don’t want to hurt those parents whom chosen those names, so I keep them to myself for the moment.

After I had fallen a sleep again this morning, I woke up by my cellphone. Chloé was trying to call me. Chloé is 20, know her from the UVA (University of Amsterdam). She’s the friend I go men hunting with. But she recently got a boyfriend, so we need to find something else to do, or we’re just going on a man hunt for me. Chloé is the girl with whom I go out to dinner with about 2 or 3 times a week. I know it’s quite a lot, but I really can’t cook and honestly I don’t like it either. I’m spoiled, I know! I remember the first man hunt very well, it was in the Chocolat Bar (www.chocolate-bar.nl). We went there often for drinks. We opened the door and it was full of people, not all very attractive I must say. But there was one we both liked, we set our eyes on him and his friend who more belonged with the rest of the crowed (if you know what I mean). We came up with the following story: After asking if we could share a table together, she would go to the bathroom leaving me alone with the boys and than I should try to talk to them. And that’s what happened, it was fun. We exchanged phone numbers, started to send messages to each other. I ended up “dating” the cute guy, named Laurens, for almost 6 months. It wasn’t very serious, but it was fun. Later on he told me, that they new all along that me were faking the whole “toilet break” scenario. I do feel a bit stupid when I reed the story now, but still with a big smile on my face.

After my late breakfast with Chloé, I got a call from 3 other friends asking if I would like to go shopping. As a real shopping addict, I immediately said YES! Charlotte, Hannah and Kirsten are my girlies. We know each other for years, we’re best friends.. The four of us are like the characters of Sex and the City, we know each other threw and threw. We might not talk to for a while but when we meet again it’s fun as always, like nothing ever happened. I know more than a million story’s about them, about all the things we’ve done and seen. The holidays we spend together, or just the average day at school, everything is fun with them. Charlotte, 20, single, went nuts when she found out that sex and the city the movie was arriving, she almost rented the entire cinema, invited all her friends (in fashionable outfits) to come and see the movie. Hannah, also 20, still lives with her parents, the first with a diploma in fashion, everyone loves and are jealous of her curly hair. She’s the one I mostly go on vacation and take trips with. Kirsten, 20, is a model and just moved in with her boyfriend in his apartment. She’s the one who always has a million things to do, always knows the best party’s and guest list, the most expensive clothing etc. She’s like Samantha in sex and the city, she looks a lot like her. Hannah and Charlotte are more like Carrie.

First, we went to the coffee company, for a good cup of coffee. We sat there eating brownies and drinking coffee, looking into some vogue’s for inspiration and chatting about all the things we want to buy.
We went shopping, and I bought a couple of great things..

I bought this cardigan, from DKNY, and I’m going to wear it with my gray sass & bride jeans and a basic top from the Mango.

The 2nd thing I saw, was this dress.. I have a beach party coming up and I still needed an outfit. When I saw this one, I fell in love with it right away. This Floret bustier dress from Chloé (the brand, not the friend) and my white shoes will look gorgeous together, a trip to the tanning salon and some summer-jewellery and we‘re good to go!

Later on I bought some small things and a couple of bracelets at a vintage market, very cute, and we went to the coffee company again. The rest of the evening was relaxed, I went for a manicure and bought some food at Indonesian takeout and went back to my apartment. Walking by the apartment of my ex, Laurens, I heard they where having a big party. Anyway I was happy to be home and went to eat my dinner in bed. I have to say I don’t like to eat in my bed, but sometimes its just the most relaxing thing you can do. In the meantime I watched an old classic: How to marry a millionaire, with Lauren Becall, Marilyn Monroe and Betty Gable. It was a relaxing Sunday, had fun and I hope you 2; reading my blog. See you next time.

Toedeloe.. XOXO (gossip girl :P)
